Veya Restaurant Anguilla

If you’re a major foodie, or if you just want a romantic dinner night, Veya Restaurant Anguilla is one of the best picks on the island. Set above Sandy Ground, this home-turned-restaurant serves up Caribbean fusion food in a Moroccan-style lounge, and outdoors on a veranda.

The breeze, the candlelit atmosphere, the live music, not to mention the menu (which the restaurant describes as “cuisine of the sun”), more than make up for not being directly next to the sea. Expect unusual dishes like Moroccan-spiced shrimp “cigars,” grilled jerk-spiced tuna with a rum-coffee glaze, and risotto with basil goat cheese, or try the five-course chef’s tasting menu. Veya Restaurant Anguilla is also known for whipping up the best desserts on Anguilla, and the list of options is long.

A graduate of The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, Chef Carrie Bogar and partner/husband, Jerry Bogar opened Empire Restaurant in Carlisle, Pennsylvania in 1994.

In 2006, carrie and jerry sold their 12 year restaurant “Empire” and made the big move to a tiny island in the Caribbean.

Their restaurant, Veya, on the island of Anguilla quickly garnered rave reviews from The NY Times, Bon Appetite, Food & Wine and The London Times. Frommers wrote that “on an island blessed with top-caliber chefs and the Caribbean’s best dining scene, this Sandy Ground “treehouse” is one of the best-and it’s only been around since 2007. The Pennsylvania chef/owners call their food the “cuisine of the sun”, and it’s a mixed fusion of exotic flavours from hot spots around the globe”.
